- La mia ricerca si occupa delle traduzioni della Bibbia in sanscrito. I principali oggetti della mia ricerca sono state quindi le varie edizioni dell’Antico e del Nuovo Testamento sanscrito pubblicate in India dai missionari battisti nel corso del XIX secolo. L’indagine però per approfondire lo sviluppo del sanscrito cosiddetto “ecclesiastico” si è soffermata ad analizzare anche le opere che divulgano la dottrina cristiana in sanscrito ma composte al di fuori del circolo missionario. Lo scopo della ricerca è stato quello di ricostruire la storia delle varie edizioni bibliche, individuare le strategie traduttive adottate dai vari protagonisti dell’indagine e, infine, analizzare nel dettaglio la terminologia da loro adottata per la trasmissione dei concetti cristiani; il fine ultimo della ricerca è stato quello di produrre una griglia terminologica coi principali termini cristiani così come vengono tradotti nelle varie versioni sanscrite.
- My research is about biblical translations in sanskrit. I worked on the translations of the Old and New Testament into sanskrit carried on by Baptist missionaries in India during the XIX century. In order to thoroughly analyze the so called "church sanskrit", I also worked on those works written outside the missionary societies but aiming to the diffusion of the christian religion through the medium of sanskrit. The main objects of my research were to give a reconstruction of the history of any complete biblical translation, to identify translators' strategy and to carefully examine the terminology adopted by the characters of my research and used to ceonvey christian concepts in sanskrit. The final aim of my researh has been the realization of a terminological grid of the most important christian terms as they were translated into sanskrit in the different editions of the sanskrit Bible.
