- La tesi esamina gli insediamenti fortificati d’altura nel territorio di Tirana (Albania), in particolare la ricerca prende in analisi i siti di Dorëz, Persqop e Zgërdhesh, durante il periodo classico-ellenistico. Questo territorio coincide non solo con il territorio dell'Illiria meridionale, ma anche con l’entroterra della colonia costiera di Epidamnos / Dyrrachium, la quale è stata popolata dalla tribù illirica degli Partini. Attraverso una revisione critica delle testimonianze bibliografiche e archeologiche, l’elaborato esamina delle ipotesi che cercano di approfondire ulteriormente le tesi fino ad oggi sostenute dagli studiosi moderni in merito al ruolo e la storia di questi insediamenti. Lo studio del popolamento e del ruolo che questi siti hanno avuto in età ellenistica, ha fornito un quadro utile per strutturare piste d’indagine alternative sullo sviluppo degli insediamenti nell’Illiria meridionale. La revisione della bibliografia edita è stata arricchita da nuovi dati emersi dal lavoro eseguito in terreno nel triennio 2017-2020, come la ricognizione della superficie e i rilevamenti topografici effettuati. All’interno dell’elaborato vengono documentati e analizzati per la prima volta i nuovi dati ed alcuni ritrovamenti emersi nei siti di Persqop e Dorëz. I risultati emersi dimostrano che i modelli di espansione e contrazione degli insediamenti nell’entroterra tra età ellenistica e tardo-antica possono essere in parte ricostruibili attraverso le testimonianze materiali. La ricerca contribuisce all’avanzamento della conoscenza su questi siti, proponendo un primo tentativo di collegare le differenze diacroniche delle loro dinamiche insediative con i principali eventi storici nell'Illiria meridionale.
- The thesis examines the fortified highland settlements in the territory of Tirana (Albania) and in particular it analyzes the sites of Dorëz, Persqop and Zgërdhesh, during the Classical-Hellenistic period. This area corresponds not only with the territory of Southern Illyria, but also with the hinterland of the coastal colony of Epidamnos / Dyrrachium, which was populated by the Illyrian tribe of the Parthini. Through a critical review of the literature and based on the archaeological evidences, the work examines different hypotheses that seek to further investigate the proposals advanced by modern scholars regarding the role and history of these settlements. The study of the population and the role that these sites played in the Hellenistic period has provided a useful framework for structuring alternative paths for the investigation of settlements’ development in Southern Illyria. The evidences gathered from the published surveys on this area, was enriched by adding new data emerged from the work carried out on the ground in the three-year period 2017-2020, such as the data from the reconnaissance of the surface and the topographic surveys carried out. The new data and some findings that emerged at the Persqop and Dorëz sites are documented and analyzed for the first time. The results that emerged show that the patterns of expansion and contraction of the settlements in the hinterland between the Hellenistic and late-ancient period can be partially reconstructed through factual evidence. The present research contributes to the advancement of knowledge on the three sites, suggesting a first attempt to link the diachronic differences of their settlement dynamics with the main historical events in Southern Illyria.
