Italian Alternative History literature. Alternative History and Propaganda in Italian Tales.

Il caso della letteratura ucronica italiana. Ucronia e propaganda nella narrativa italiana.

The matter of this essay is Italian alternative history tales published after the Second World War, linked to Italian extreme right-wing movements and compared with the main novels of the same kind written in English. The topic is explained with a historical approach and the considered works of fiction are matched with the foreign models in a comparative viewpoint. The first section offers a general and synthetic perspective of the current studies about this kind of tales, the second section concerns the historical description of the genre in Italy, whereas the third section is focused on the ideological controversies raised by some novels and on the comparison between these works and their main English and American models. The essay intends to be an original contribution to this topic and results from a documentary research, besides considering the thematic analysis of the examined works.

Oggetto dello studio sono le narrazioni ucroniche italiane del secondo dopoguerra, in comparazione con le principali opere anglosassoni del genere e in relazione con i movimenti di estrema destra. La problematica viene inquadrata con un approccio storico e le opere sono confrontate con i modelli stranieri in un'ottica comparativa. La prima parte offre un quadro generale e sintetico dello stato degli studi intorno a questa forma narrativa, la seconda è la descrizione della panoramica storica del genere nell'ambito italiano, mentre la terza parte si focalizza sulle polemiche ideologiche sollevate da alcune opere esaminate e sul confronto fra queste e i principali romanzi in lingua inglese a cui si rifanno esplicitamente. Lo studio si propone come contributo originale alla questione ed è basato su una raccolta documentaria oltre che sull'analisi tematica dei testi presi in esame.
