This contribution proposes an interpretation of the language theory in Finnegans Wake, identifying its potential matches with the embodied cognition thesis. First, are revised critical texts about the relations between joycean writings, the sciences of the mind and the evolution of technology and informatics. Then, through the close analysis of four excerpt, are outlined the traits of joycean poetics closer to the recent acquisitions in the cognitive sciences. In particular: the bodily roots of the formation of language and the inexhaustible process of interpretation. The first convergence is detected in neurosciences, with reference to the recent proposals of Vittorio Gallese, about “embodiment of language comprehension.” The second convergence is identified in the studies on Artificial Life, referring to the writings of Christopher Langton and the Research Group of Los Alamos.

Con il presente contributo si propone una lettura della teoria del linguaggio in Finnegans Wake, individuando le sue possibili corrispondenze con l’embodied cognition thesis. In primo luogo, vengono revisionati i testi critici relativi al rapporto tra la scrittura joyciana, le scienze della mente e l’evoluzione tecnologica e informatica. In seguito, tramite l’analisi ravvicinata di quattro brani, sono delineati i caratteri della poetica joyciana più prossimi alle recenti acquisizioni nelle scienze cognitive. In particolare: il radicamento corporale della formazione del linguaggio e l’inesauribilità del processo di interpretazione. La prima convergenza è individuata nell’ambito delle neuroscienze, con riferimento alle recenti proposte di Vittorio Gallese, riguardo l’“incarnazione della comprensione linguistica”. La seconda convergenza è individuata nell’ambito degli studi sulla “vita artificiale”, con riferimento agli scritti di Christopher Langton e del gruppo di ricerca di Los Alamos.
