- A qualunque epoca o latitudine appartengano, le immagini sono il segno tangibile sia dei processi naturali, storici e sociali che le hanno prodotte, sia delle idee, dei gusti e delle inclinazioni delle comunità che in esse si riconoscevano. Per tale motivo il loro studio in rapporto alle società antiche, se condotto in considerazione del potenziale di significati che esse assommano, rappresenta una delle chiavi di lettura più proficue per la comprensione di realtà e sistemi di valori distanti nel tempo e nello spazio. Whatever age or place they belong to, images are the concrete sign of the natural, historical and social processes that produce them, but also the evidence of the ideas, tastes and inclinations of the communities they identify with. Therefore the analysis of the images that the ancient societies produced – if accomplished in consideration of the potential meanings they can express – can be one of the most profitable keys to understand realities and systems of values far from our time and place.
