The drawn survey, excavation, study and enhancement of the Roman theatre of Althiburos (El Kef, Tunisia) involves the Institut National du Patrimoine of Tunis, the University of Macerata and the Politecnico of Bari. In the three campaigns so far conducted the work of surveying and cataloguing of the architectonical elements has begun and some archaeological investigation has been carried on, that have given some evidence of the latter phases of life of the building, from the transformation into a fortress in the Byzantine period until the modern age. The Italian-Tunisian joint mission aims this year to resume the work of study of the material already found and to continue in the future research in situ for the promotion of the monument and of the ancient city of Althiburos.

Il progetto di rilievo, scavo, studio e valorizzazione del teatro romano di Althiburos (El Kef, Tunisia) vede coinvolti l’Institut National du Patrimoine, l’Università di Macerata ed il Politecnico di Bari. Nelle tre campagne sinora svolte è stato iniziato il programma di rilievo del monumento e catalogo degli elementi architettonici e sono stati iniziati alcuni saggi stratigrafici che hanno permesso di indagare le fasi più tarde della vita dell’edificio, da quando cioè, in età bizantina, il teatro venne trasformato in fortezza sino all’età moderna. Il progetto della missione congiunta tunisino-italiana prevede di riprendere quest’anno lo studio del monumento e del materiale già scavato e di continuare nei prossimi anni la ricerca sul campo per la valorizzazione del monumento e del sito.
