- According to Freud's view in his essay Der Witz und seine Beziehung zum Umbewusstsein, this article refers to the ironic use of Jewish tradition in Zangwill's novel and to its intersections with other literary examples (picaresque novel, Sterne). In particular this article point out the relation between the main use of logical wits and the question of Jewish identity.
- Sulla base della analisi freudiana del motto di spirito, il contributo mira a individuare i modi della rilettura ironica dell’eredità culturale ebraica nel romanzo e le sue intersezioni con modelli letterari altri (romanzo picaresco, Sterne). In particolare si rileva il nesso tra l'uso precipuo del motto logico e la questione identitaria del popolo ebraico.
