Primo e i suoi fratelli: Il sistema nominale konzo fra due modi d’individuazione

Among the Bakonzo of the Rwenzori, Uganda, each new-born is granted a name indicating his or her birth order, following the siblings previously born of the same mother. Such a name does not serve as a label attached to someone’s specificity and uniqueness, that is, to someone’s individuality. Rather, it is a description of the person’s relative position within the uterine descent group, a position which is – therefore – common to many persons. Other names are attached to each Mukonzo, either at birth or later in life, according to biographical circumstances, new relational positions, personal characteristics and religious affiliation. The konzo naming system contributes therefore to a «relational individuation» and nowadays reflects the new tensions that arise at the intersection between different anthropo-poietic systems.

Fra i Bakonzo del Rwenzori, Uganda, a ogni nuovo nato viene attribuito un nome che ne indica la posizione di nascita in relazione agli altri fratelli o sorelle già presenti nella discendenza materna. Il nome non è quindi l’etichetta della specificità e dell’unicità dell’individuo ma la descrizione di una posizione relazionale all'interno di un gruppo di discendenza uterina ed è dunque comune a molte persone. Altri nomi vengono poi aggiunti, nel corso della vita, in base agli eventi biografici, alle nuove configurazioni relazionali, alle qualità individuali e all’appartenenza religiosa. Il sistema nominale konzo contribuisce dunque a una «individuazione relazionale» e in esso si riflettono, in questi anni, le nuove tensioni che emergono nell’incrocio fra differenti logiche antropopoietiche.
