From the scattered individuality to the great type. Problem of decadence and Self-construction in Nietzsche’s thought.

The essay investigates the problem of Self-construction in latest Nietzsche’s thought and its relation with the question of decadence. The identity crisis of Western civilisation, the break-up of the ethical and cultural ground of modern European societies, become at the same time the opportunity for a radical renewal of humanity, the starting point for a great «anthropotechnical experiment» aimed at shaping a new human «type», a new model for a Post-Christian ethos.

Il saggio prende in esame il tema della costruzione del Sé, nel contesto del pensiero dell’ultimo Nietzsche, mettendo in luce il nesso essenziale che esso intrattiene con il problema della decadenza occidentale e del suo superamento. La «crisi identitaria» della civiltà occidentale, la disgregazione del tessuto etico e culturale delle moderne società europee, vengono ad un tempo a rappresentare, secondo una dinamica del «rovesciamento» tipica del pensiero nietzscheano, l’occasione per un rinnovamento radicale dell’umanità, il terreno fertile per un grandioso «esperimento antropotecnico» volto a forgiare quello che il filosofo chiama un nuovo «tipo», incarnazione esemplare di un nuovo ethos post-cristiano.
