This paper examines the structure of some ‘classics’ books of 20th Century Literature employing the Warburghian iconology method. Books, in fact, combine a concrete object with visual, textual and paratextual elements (visual and verbal) joined in a whole that is both an aesthetic and a communicative object.

Questo intervento propone alcune considerazioni sulla ‘forma’ di alcune opere ‘classiche’ della letteratura del secondo Novecento, utilizzando un approccio ispirato, per alcuni aspetti, alla tradizione interpretativa warburghiana. Il libro, in questa prospettiva, viene studiato in quanto oggetto unitario, in cui si integrano il supporto materiale, i diversi elementi paratestuali, verbali e visivi, il testo, uniti in un ‘discorso’, estetico e comunica- tivo, destinato a produrre effetti lungo l’asse della ricezione.
