- The paper focuses on Alfieri’s annotations in the threshold of the volumes in his possession and aims to consider more generally how he would read and study his books. His habits are in line with the new typographical system and reflect the multiplication of reading practices between the 17th and the 18th centuries (intensive / extensive, silent / aloud reading, extraction / marginalization). Alfieri’s annotations replace, if missing, some elements of the texts, ‘order’ it, and make of its physical support, the book, the point of convergence between the press and the manuscript. On the basis of some examples, we will demonstrate to what extent these annotations offer important information on the working method of Alfieri. Furthermore, we will demonstrate how Alfieri intentionally reorganized his literary archive in order to provide posterity with a confirmation of the reliability of the representation of his literary career already offered in his autobiography, the Vita.
- Il saggio, a partire da alcune considerazioni generali sulle pratiche di estrazione e di postillazione con cui Alfieri lesse e studiò i libri della sua biblioteca in relazione al nuovo regime tipografico e alla moltiplicazione delle pratiche di lettura che si affermano tra il ’600 e il ’700 (lettura intensiva/estensiva, silenziosa/a voce alta, estrazione/marginalizzazione), presenta il caso particolare delle postille di «soglia». Queste postille sopperiscono all’assenza di alcuni elementi peritestuali, ‘ordinano’ il testo e trasformano il suo supporto fisico, il volume, nel punto di incontro tra la stampa e il manoscritto, nel luogo in cui si dipana il processo di creazione letteraria. Attraverso alcuni esempi, si mostrerà come lo studio delle postille offra informazioni preziose sul metodo di lavoro di Alfieri, e sul tasso di intenzionalità con cui lo scrittore riordinò il suo archivio letterario e circoscrisse, in seno ai suoi libri, la sua ‘biblioteca d’autore’, offrendo ai posteri un riscontro della veridicità della ricostruzione che della sua carriera letteraria offre nella Vita.
