• IL FANTASMA DELLE “PROSE”. L’EREDITÀ DI PIETRO BEMBO NELLA GRAMMATICOGRAFIA SCOLASTICA ITALIANA
  • Patota, Giuseppe

Description

The phantom of “Prose”. The heritage of Pietro Bembo in scholastic italian grammarography The essay aims to evaluate the influence of the Prose della Volgar lingua by Pietro Bembo on Italian grammar books between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, considering the overall scholastic lexicographical production studied analytically by Maria Catricalà and Dalila Bachis. The “trace” of the Prose is found in the concept of Neoplatonic harmony, a principle that structured the work of Bembo and, consequently, scholastic grammar books. Moreover, the grammar books by Bembo and Fortunio sustained that written language, with the filter of the authors, prevailed over spoken language. Thus, the ghost of the Bembian model survives thanks to these principles. Nineteenth and twentieth-century grammatography inherited scholastic grammar books from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, which were in turn based on sixteenth-century normative models.
