L'attitudine e gli atteggiamenti sono due fattori di differenza individuale che più incidono sui processi e sugli esiti dell'apprendimento linguistico e interculturale. Gli usi di questi termini non sono esenti da ambiguità, per cui è utile, da una parte, mettere a fuoco le differenze concettuali (attitudine come talento o predisposizione personale che facilita l'apprendimento; atteggiamenti come convinzioni personali fornite di valore) e, dall'altra, chiarire come questi fattori si rapportino nel determinare la percezione individuale delle proprie capacità. Questa interrelazione ha importanti conseguenze sia in termini di una necessaria flessibilità metodologica e curricolare, sia in termini delle prassi didattiche conseguenti. Aptitude and attitudes are among the individual differences which most affect both the process and the outcome of language and intercultural learning. Since their use is often tinged with ambiguity, it is useful, on the one hand, to highlight the differences between the two concepts (focusing on aptitude as a facilitating talent or personal disposition, and on attitudes as valued beliefs), and, on the other hand, to explore how these factors can impact on the individual's perception of her/his own ability. The relationship between the two concepts has important implications both in terms of methodological and curricular flexibility and in terms of relevant teaching practice.
