- [Italiano]: Dopo la fine della seconda guerra mondiale gli equilibri internazionali cambiarono velocemente, e con essi anche il mondo dei servizi segreti. All’interno di una più ampia strategia anticomunista in Europa, la Germania occidentale e le sue reti d’intelligence legate al defunto Terzo Reich emersero come nuovi alleati della superpotenza statunitense. In questo contesto l’Italia giocò un ruolo cruciale. Nel 1946 l’Organisation Gehlen, un servizio segreto tedesco-occidentale costituito per iniziativa statunitense e in collaborazione con l’ex ufficiale della Wehrmacht Reinhard Gehlen, istituì l’ODEUM Roma, la propria base estera nella capitale italiana, guidata dall’ex fisico nucleare Johannes Gehlen, fratello maggiore di Reinhard. Proprio il rapporto tra i due fratelli e le complesse dinamiche di comunicazione e controllo tra base estera e “organizzazione madre” diventano in questo volume la lente focale per un’analisi dell’evoluzione e dell’attività dell’Organisation Gehlen in Italia tra il 1946 e il 1956 nel contesto della “guerra di spie” che dilagava nella penisola agli inizi della guerra fredda../[English]:The end of World War II determined a rapid change of international equilibriums and, as a consequence, of the world of secret services. In this context, Western Germany and its intelligence networks tied to the defunct Third Reich quickly became important allies for the United States in regard to their broader anticommunist strategy in Europe. Within the latter, Italy played a crucial role. In 1946 the Organisation Gehlen, a Western-German intelligence service under U.S. control and founded in collaboration with former Wehrmacht officer Reinhard Gehlen, instituted the ODEUM Rome, its external base in the Italian capital, which was led by Johannes Gehlen, Reinhard’s older brother. In this book, the relationship between the brothers and the complex dynamics of communication and control between the external base and its “mother organization”, constitute the conceptual and interpretative framework for an analysis of the Organisation Gehlen’s evolution and activity in Italy between 1946 and 1956 in the context of the Italian “war of spies” at the beginning of the Cold War.
