- La ricerca condotta sull’Archivio Romano della Compagnia di Gesù (Fondo Sardegna), consente di delineare compiuta-mente la travagliata vicenda costruttiva del Complesso collegiale gesuitico di Cagliari nella seconda metà del XVI secolo, ripercorrendole tappe salienti del primo periodo di permanenza dell’Ordine loyolitico a Cagliari, dall’arrivo del primo gesuita Padre Pietro Spiga il14 maggio del 1557, alla posa della prima pietra della Chiesa di Santa Croce nel novembre del 1594.I documenti consentono di anticipare di oltre due anni la data di arrivo della Compagnia in Sardegna rispetto a quella finora accre-ditata del 16 novembre 1559. Si chiarisce, inoltre, la tempistica degli avvicendamenti nella direzione lavori degli architetti gesuiti, ilfratello ticenese Gian Domenico de Verdina e l’intelvese Giovanni Maria Bernardoni, alla cui scuola si formarono i due isolani FratelGavino Crisostomo Cayna, “faber murarius”, e il “Praefectus fabricae ecclesiae” Padre Luca Cañolacho, questi ultimi attivi soprattuttonel cantiere della Chiesa di Santa Croce.The research carried out into the Archive of the Roman Society of Jesus (Division Sardinia), allows to fully outline the trou-bled constructional event of Cagliari’s Jesuit collegiate Complex in the second half of XVI century. This is because the research runsthrough the main steps again about the Loyolean Order’s earliest times of stay in Cagliari, from the first Jesuit Father’s arrival, PietroSpiga, on May 14th 1557, to the laying of the foundation stone of the Saint Cross Church in November 1594.Trustworthy documents allow to advance by over two years the Society’s arrival date in Sardinia, in comparison to the one so far nowconsidered reliable, November 16th 1559. It is furthermore cleared up the time-recording of the rotations in the supervision of worksby different Jesuit architects: the ticenese (from Canton of Ticino, Switzerland) brother Gian Domenico de Verdina and the intelvese(from Intelvi Valley, in the province of Como, Italy ) Giovanni Maria Bernardoni, It’s at Giovanni Maria Bernardoni’s school thattwo islanders were formed: Brother Gavino Crisostomo Cayna, “faber murarius”, and the “Praefectus fabricae ecclesiae” Father LucaCañolacho, being these last ones active above all in the building yard of Saint Cross Church.
