Reasons and effects of the participation of Cuban Afro-descendants in the struggles for emancipation in Africa

Motivos y efectos de la participación de los afrodescendientes cubanos en las luchas por la emancipación en África

This paper aims to analyse the participation of Afro-Cubans in the armed struggle for the decolonization of Africa. Indeed, after the triumph of the Revolution in 1959, protected by the Internationalism and the Marxism, and under the command of Ernesto Che Guevara, Cuba breaks out a campaign of liberation in Africa in which, the afrodescendants, at the forefront of the armies, will play an important role. In this way, this article analyses the reasons of the select participation of blacks Cubans. It starts with the blood relation between Cuba and Africa, then studies the reasons of the sending of afrodescendant’s combatants and the great protagonists of these campaigns and finishes with the impact of these struggles in the relationship between both peoples. El presente artículo tiene por objeto analizar la participación de los afrocubanos en la lucha armada para la descolonización de África. En efecto, tras el triunfo de la Revolución en 1959, amparada por el internacionalismo y el marxismo, y bajo el mando de Ernesto Che Guevara, Cuba inicia una campaña de liberación en África en la que los afrodescendientes, al frente de los ejércitos, desempeñarán un papel importante. De esta manera, este artículo analiza las razones de la participación selectiva de los negros cubanos. Comienza con la relación de sangre entre Cuba y África, luego estudia las razones del envío de combatientes afrodescendientes y los grandes protagonistas de estas campañas y termina con el impacto de estas luchas en la relación entre ambos pueblos.
